Gathering steam, as gorgeous walnut shows its char Gathering steam, as gorgeous walnut shows its character. It’s by far my favorite, but also a bit of a challenge due to its hardness. Threaded inserts were also quite the creative challenge, requiring a double-thread lock approach; resulting in a few sacrificial, mangled bits. All worth it in the end.

Haven’t had a whole lot of time the past year, o Haven’t had a whole lot of time the past year, or the energy for that matter for any personal projects, but have wanted to put together a custom frame/mat for some Etsy art for a Mothers Day/Birthday gift I’ve been planning on for months. Haven’t cut a custom mat in more than 15 years… still not easy without the proper tools, but it adds to the rustic/handmade quality of it 😉 (that’s how these justifications play out right? Lemonade from lemons) imperfections are the human element - things not made in a factory, all identical. First time trying splines also, very happy with the outcome and added strength.

40x32 finished size. Red oak recycled floor timbers, cottonwood splines, Tripple matte. No glass yet, maybe eventually.

3D projection and atmospheric cloud rendering with the sun setting in the West, of a land we call home. Nice to have a little reminder of the people we love and the places we miss and hold dear, and to remember that : those places still and will always exist. They may get burnt, change or become too expensive to live, but like the love of the relationships made, will always endure.

Favorite so far has to be the exposed chimney reveal. Progress is about 60% complete. 1st photo is current, last photo is how we started - check back in a few weeks for the completed! …Ok things are never truly “finished” are they? ☺️
Moving on to more difficult materials. PETG first Moving on to more difficult materials. PETG first for the lock knobs (2 hr print shown with nut inserts here), ASA for the bodies next - both much stronger of a print for durability, as well as exterior usage, and UV exposure than the PLA.

Also fun to get back into mechanical design after so long away.
